CONGRATULATIONS: We would like to congratulate J. Carson (pictured right above) and Christobal Tiru (pictured left above) for their outstanding performances in the MAPL 2012 fall finals. Both competitors played an incredible match. Chritobal took control of the match earlier on by winning the first three racks in a race to eleven. Mr Carson (who also participates in our senior member division) after getting settled responded with a run of his own. At one point it seemed as if both competitors would be going back and forth with wins but that was far from the case. After losing his fourth rack to Christobal, Carson never looked back. He would go on to win his first MAPL championship in striking fashion.
Our celebrity referee on hand was open/pro billiard player Jorge Rodriguez (pictured center above).

SPRING 2013 VIRTUAL TEAM CHAMPION
YOLO Pull off an Incredible Tie Breaker Win
The VIRTUAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS kicked off this weekend May 18th and 19th at Steinway Café Billiards and featured some of the toughest teams ever assembled in Mega. By day two the session’s 3rd and 4th place teams had eliminated all their opponents and was set to meet each other in the final. Team All Pros, featured David Flowers, Carl Jager, Elaine Nikolakakas and Bobby Toomy. Their opponents team YOLO featured Ambi Estevez, Glenn Ramsey, T. Moses and Richard Celestin.
Both teams went at it giving their all and when the last rack of the match was finally over, the referee announced that there was a tie. Both teams had accumulated equal amount of points and as a result, a ONE GAME TIE-BREAKER (8ball format) had to be played.
In the tie-breaker Mr. David Flowers represented team All Pros and Glenn Ramsey team YOLO. At first it seemed as if Glenn was unshakable playing each shot with incredible precision but a rare miss on an easy cut would have Mr. Flowers back at the table for a standard four ball run out. Or so we thought. He would go on to scratch on his second attempt and had Glenn returning with ball in hand on the 8. YOLO would go on to win the 2013 spring VIRTUAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Please join us in congratulating (from left in picture) T. Moses, Richard Celestin, Ambie Estevez and Glenn Ramsey our newest MVT (Megabucks Virtual Team) Champs. |

THE WILL OF ONE
Amos Takes Home The MVP
One of the most prestigious accomplishments in the MAPL is to be crowned the MVP. The person who wins this award does not only represent his/her division but the ENTIRE league. In short if you won the MVP it means you were the best player (MALE AND FEMALE AWARDED) in the Megabucks Amateur Pool League for that session. Throughout the years we have crowned many participants with this unique title and have stressed our belief that anyone, regardless of skill, could attain such heights if they truly worked at it.
This past fall 2012 MVP has not only gone beyond our expectations but has inspired us to believe that true competition begins in the heart. For if your love for something (in this case a sport) is great enough, you can will you soul beyond your own imagination.
Please join me in congratulating one of our senior members Mr. Amos Modeste (81 years old) on winning the fall 2012 MAPL MVP. Amos has definitely proven to us all that when there is love, dedication and hard work any achievement is possible.
Note: This event is open to league members only. For details please contact us at info@MegabucksPOOLLEAGUE.com or 347.541.MEGA.

FALL 2012 VIRTUAL TEAM CHAMPIONS
'Mikes Team' Pulls off a Nail Biter

No one could have anticipated the outcome of the virtual team playoffs. Every team seemed to have had an edge and when the balls started rolling it all became eminent. The ‘CRUSHERS’ who finished atop of the standings for the session were among the favorites to take it all but the runner ups 'YOLO' had a different plan in mind. In what appeared to be an intense battle between both teams, YOLO would emerge as the victor going into the finals to face off with the session’s third place finishers ‘MIKES TEAM’.
On December 8th, 2012 during the regular session both these team met in competition and it was fierce to the very end. The final score was 33 to 34 with 'YOLO' taking the victory via a one game tie breaker.
As both teams prepared to do battle in the fall 2012 Virtual Team playoffs, you could see the tension on the members of both squads. While the spectators silently awaited a victor one thing was thoroughly clear, neither teams would walk away with an easy win.
After the first round of play both teams appeared to be in close contention going into the second and final round. Normally we could call a game based on points but in this situation with these two teams, everything was going down to the wire. It was so close that when it was finally over, 'MIKES TEAM' emerged as the victors with only a difference of one point. A win well earned. |

FALL 2012 QUEEN OF QUEENS CHAMPION / MVP
Bianca Martinez Raises The Bar
Never before in the history of Mega has any one member achieved more than four awards during a league session. It just did not seem logical. Well Bianca Martinez (pictured right) has not only proven us wrong, she has single handedly raised the bar in regards to competing in the MAPL. Bianca for the Fall 2012 session walked away with (and this is not a typo) a whopping seven awards totaling over $700 during the MAPL awards ceremony conducted this Fall at Break Billiards in Astoria Queens. This list included:
- Top Ranked Mid Session Player – Female.
- Player with the Most Break and Run – Female.
- Player with the Most 8/9ball on the Break – Female.
- Queen of Queens Champion.
- Most Valuable Female Player (MVFP).
- Local Division Winner.
- Top overall female finisher of the fall 2012 session.
Keep in mind that all of these awards were for achievements made during the regular session. With such an outstanding accomplishment we all expected something special from her going into the fall 2012 playoffs. That however was not the case and Bianca would go on to lose her two first rounds which ended her reign as one of the most dominant players to ever participate in an MAPL league session. |

2012 SCOTCH DOUBLES CHAMPIONS
Coupe De Grace Goes All The Way
Team ‘Coupe De Grace’ featuring Clive Rose and Eliud Irizarry were an unstoppable force in the fall 2012 session of the MAPL's scotch doubles event.
Many spectators at the event thought this team hadn’t a chance due to the level of their combined handicaps and especially the weight they would have to give up during a match. CDG however had a different view. It was plain and simple, just win. And win they did. They went on such a roll that for a moment regardless of the spots given, no one wanted to play them.
When they finally made it to the finals CDG would once again face a team they had defeated earlier. The ‘Winners’ featuring Alfred Hargett and Elaine Nikolakakos were very successful with the exception of the one loss to CDG so the game plan going into the finals was to definitely play smarter.
As both teams went head to head the tension at the event grew. The weight given to the ‘Winners’ seemed ridiculous and almost everyone looking on already predetermined who the victors would be. With such a spot the outcome seemed obvious. Well, it wasn’t. Coupe De Grace would go on a monstrous run to defeat the ‘Winners’ 7-1 and claim the fall 2012 Scotch Doubles Championship.
Note: This event is open to league members only. For details please contact us at info@MegabucksPOOLLEAGUE.com or 347.541.MEGA. |

SENIOR MEMBER DIVISION FALL 2012 CHAMPIONSHIP
Rookie Thomas Mullane Takes it ALL
The senior division has only been getting better since its inception. They have become so competitive that other divisions are curious as to how they have been able to remain so successful. In the last two overall MAPL Singles Championships we have had one runner up and a winner who just happen to be seniors.
In the fall 2012 session a rookie to this unique division went undefeated to claim the top spot. Thomas Mullane (pictured right) was not the favorite to win it but showed he had what it took by going through a very tough competitive field featuring players like the fall 2012 MVP Amos Modeste and Division winner Carl Jager.
Carl was actually the favorite going into the division playoffs but that all change when he came face to face with Thomas in the finals. Both men faced off like true champions with Carl jumping out to a quick start. It seem one sided until Thomas started to make his move. From then on he would never look back and when the match was finally over Mr. Mullane was crowned the next senior division champion of the fall 2012 session.
Note: This event is open to league members only. For details please contact us at info@MegabucksPOOLLEAGUE.com or 347.541.MEGA. |

MAPL 2012 SUMMER MASTERS PRO-AM PLAYOFFS
Ambi Estevez Goes Toe to Toe with the PEARL
Ambi Estevez proved once again today that in the MAPL, everyone has an equal opportunity to win. After defeating Devon Wooden in the semi finals of the Megabucks Masters Pro-Am Playoffs, he would go on to face five time world nine ball champion Earl Strickland in the finals. This particular division which is only open to C+ levels and above (including pros) featured some of the toughest players around the NYC area.
Pro billiard player Zion 'The MegaMan' Zvi and Earl 'The Pearl' Strickland (who are currently members) were clearly the favorites to win it all but the MAPL’s unique handicapping system allowed us the opportunity to witness a world class pro and a 'C' level player in the finals. After trailing by 9 games Earl would go on a run to tie it all up at 11. He would then take the lead at 12-11 going into rack number 24. Ambi however would not give in and came roaring back to tie the match up on the hill at 12-12. The final rack came down to a safety battle between both men with Earl ending up as the victor winning the match via a three foul violation and a score of 13-12.
Note: This event is open to league members only with skill levels 'C+' and above. For details please contact us at info@MegabucksPOOLLEAGUE.com or 347.541.MEGA.
